Nursing education is widely recognized as academically rigorous, with students facing significant levels of stress due to demanding coursework, clinical rotations, and examinations. High stress levels can negatively impact students' academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being (World Health Organization, 2024). Common stressors among nursing students include long study hours, emotional strain from patient care, and pressure to perform well in both theoretical and practical assessments (Aliyu & Usman, 2023).
Stress management programs, which include counseling, relaxation techniques, time management training, and peer support initiatives, have been shown to improve students’ ability to cope with academic stress (Bello et al., 2023). By providing students with effective coping strategies, these programs can enhance concentration, reduce burnout, and improve overall academic outcomes (Ibrahim & Yusuf, 2024).
Despite the potential benefits of stress management programs, their effectiveness in improving nursing students' academic performance in Kogi State remains underexplored. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of stress management interventions on students' academic success, engagement, and emotional well-being.
Many nursing students experience chronic stress due to the intensity of their academic and clinical training. Unmanaged stress can lead to anxiety, depression, reduced cognitive function, and poor academic performance (Ahmed & Yusuf, 2023).
While stress management programs have been implemented in various educational institutions, their impact on nursing students in Kogi State has not been systematically assessed. Without empirical evidence, it remains unclear whether these programs effectively enhance students' coping mechanisms and academic performance. Understanding their effectiveness is crucial for designing targeted interventions to support students' well-being and success.
This study will focus on nursing students in selected tertiary institutions in Kogi State. Limitations may include variations in students' personal stress coping mechanisms and differences in institutional support for stress management programs.
